Devon Renaissance
Devon Renaissance is a not for profit partnership of the private sector, local authorities and community-based organisations. Funded primarily by the South West Regional Development Agency, the programme provides grant funding in order to help create prosperity and jobs and improve access to services in rural areas.
We are delighted to announce that we have now allocated all our available funding. We have achieved this target quicker than we had anticipated, and it means projects helping to improve the economy of rural Devon have been approved in a much shorter timescale. All our existing projects are proceeding as planned and we will be able to give a full report on how our support has benefited rural Devon in due course.
However our success does mean that for the time being we are unable to accept any new proposals which require immediate funding. When our new funding streams are agreed we will, of course, be looking for new projects and we are happy to discuss and give advice on possible projects ahead of this time.
Survey of Rural Devon's Businesses
A survey of businesses in rural Devon has indicated that average business turnovers are up in many cases, in spite of problems accessing finance and obtaining good broadband speeds.
Devon Renaissance, the rural regeneration partnership organisation, has collected responses from more than 3,000 rural businesses in the past three months. Results are still being analysed but early indications show that many are being severely affected by the economic downturn.
The survey has also tracked performance of 500 businesses which were surveyed last year, and initial results here show that the effects are not necessarily what might be expected. The availability of finance has become a more significant issue since the previous survey, and many areas are still experiencing inadequate broadband speeds, but in spite of this the average business turnover has increased.(for full story click here)
